The first 3D-Woven Chef Coat

Le Nouveau Chef's newest creation combines craftsmanship and innovation: the first 3D-woven chef coat.

Le Nouveau Chef launched the first 3D-woven chef coat. born from a commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability. Developed in collaboration with EE Exclusives and designer Kelly Konings.

The 3D-woven chef coat is a bold reality and innovative expertise, combined into a design created by using the Whole Garment Weaving technique. This groundbreaking method allows complex patterns to be woven directly into the fabric, reducing production steps and minimising waste. The chef coat is also made from locally produced materials, including yarns from recycled workwear by Spinning Jenny.

As family businesses, Le Nouveau Chef and EE Exclusives share a vision to innovate the industry through collaboration and creativity. The 3D-woven chef coat is the perfect evolution of this vision. This partnership not only creates a chef coat but also opens the door to a more thoughtful approach to production. With transparency and craftsmanship at its core, this project showcases the potential when a designer, brand, and manufacturer unite with a shared mission: to minimise waste and prevent overproduction.

Transforming the industry through collaboration and innovation

In today’s textile industry, the gap between fashion and production is growing. Many fashion designers and buyers don’t fully understand the complex, labour-intensive work that goes into making fabrics. This lack of knowledge, combined with pressure of tight budgets and the decreasing willingness of consumers to pay more, puts a lot of strain on both prices and quality.

To cut costs, textile manufacturers often choose cheaper materials that don’t meet the original design standards, leading to a lower-quality final product. This mismatch between the fabric and the design weakens the quality and lifespan of the item.

The solution to a fading craft
Le Nouveau Chef and EE Labels believe that fair pricing for everyone in the supply chain is key to a sustainable future. The long partnership shows that investing in relationships, sharing knowledge, using local production, and fair pricing creates a strong foundation for lasting success. As traditional craftsmanship fades, they are choosing to invest in innovation. They believe that only by making smart investments can their businesses continue to thrive for future generations.

Turning a vision into reality
Kelly’s expertise, combined with a fresh approach and deep knowledge of weaving techniques, has led to new ideas and uses for Whole Garment Weaving. This has resulted in the creation of the first 3D-woven chef jacket. Although this technique has been around for a while, it is now being developed further to ensure that the pattern, jacquard, and yarn come together perfectly in a final product that meets customer needs.
